Philodendron Tahiti (P. mayoi) – 4" Jungle-Vibe Palm Leaf Plant
Philodendron ‘Tahiti’ (Philodendron mayoi) – 4” Jungle-Vibe Palm Leaf Plant
Philodendron ‘Tahiti’, commonly sold as Philodendron mayoi, is a wonderfully tropical aroid with deeply divided, palm-like foliage that becomes increasingly dramatic as the plant matures. Young plants are charming and compact, but each successive leaf develops more pronounced lobes, eventually creating that unmistakable jungle-canopy look.
A climbing philodendron, P. mayoi really comes into its own when given a moss pole, plank or other support. With warmth, good light and something to climb, it can develop substantially larger and more deeply divided leaves.
Light: Bright, indirect light is ideal. Avoid harsh afternoon sun.
Water: Allow the upper 1–2 inches of potting mix to dry before watering thoroughly. Avoid keeping the roots constantly wet.
Humidity: Adaptable to average household humidity, although moderate to higher humidity encourages stronger growth and larger foliage.
Soil: Use a chunky, well-draining aroid mix with plenty of airflow around the roots.
Support: Provide a moss pole, plank or trellis as the plant matures to encourage climbing and larger leaves.
Temperature: Prefers warm, stable indoor temperatures and protection from cold drafts.
Growth: Climbing, with increasingly large and deeply lobed foliage as it matures.
Difficulty: Easy to intermediate.
Pet Safety: Philodendrons contain calcium oxalate crystals and are toxic if chewed or ingested by pets.
A fantastic choice if you want the look of a miniature tropical palm with all the fun of watching a philodendron grow up.
