The Ultimate "Goth Plant" for Jewel Orchid Collectors.
Elevate your indoor jungle with Ludisia 'Black Swan', an extraordinary terrestrial jewel orchid coveted for its dramatic, ultra-dark foliage. While traditional orchids are celebrated for their flowers, the 'Black Swan' commands attention with broad, velvet-textured leaves that absorb light into a deep, near-black abyss. This stark, moody surface is elegantly split by a singular, striking metallic pinstripe down the center.
Grown via precision laboratory tissue culture, these clean starter plantlets offer an incredibly rewarding experience for terrarium builders, vivarium hobbyists, and collectors of rare, exotic tropical plants.
Key Features & Plant Traits
- Velvety, Near-Black Foliage: Plush, fabric-like leaves with an intense, light-absorbing dark tone and clean central pinstriping.
- Adaptable Terrestrial Grower: Unlike most climbing orchids, Ludisia naturally creeps along the forest floor, adapting beautifully to soil-based mediums.
- Terrarium & Cloche Friendly: Its slow, compact growth habit makes it a perfect specimen for enclosed glass environments.
- Pest-Free Lab Start: Propagated via sterile tissue culture to ensure you receive a robust, genetically pristine plantlet free of greenhouse pests.
Quick Care & Acclimation Guide
- Light: Low to medium indirect light. Avoid direct sun at all costs, as bright light will cause the leaves to lose their deep black coloration.
- Humidity: Thrives in 60% to 85% humidity. While more tolerant of ambient air than other jewel orchid genera, it develops its deep, velvety sparkle best inside a terrarium, dome, or prop box.
- Watering: Keep the growing medium consistently damp but never waterlogged. Avoid letting the root zone dry out completely.
- Substrate: Plant in damp New Zealand sphagnum moss or a highly porous terrestrial mix containing peat, perlite, and fine charcoal.
- Temperature: Maintain warm room temperatures between 18°C and 26°C (64°F–79°F). Protect from sudden cold draft spikes.
Important Shipping & Handling Note
This product ships as a delicate, unacclimated tissue culture plantlet. Please have your acclimation setup (damp moss and a high-humidity container) ready before arrival. Gently rinse all sterile agar gel from the roots using lukewarm water before introducing the plantlet to its new medium.
