Hoya chinghungensis

Hoya chinghungensis is a charming miniature species with tiny green leaves and fine, trailing stems. Its delicate scale gives it a completely different look from the thick-leaved, substantial Hoyas most people are familiar with, making it an especially fun addition to a collection.

This species develops into a dense cascade of small foliage and looks fantastic spilling from a hanging pot, trailing over the edge of a shelf, or growing in a humid plant cabinet. Despite its delicate appearance, it can become a wonderfully full plant once established.

Mature plants produce clusters of tiny Hoya flowers that are perfectly in proportion with the miniature foliage.

Care Highlights

  • Light: Bright, indirect light is ideal. Avoid intense direct afternoon sun.

  • Water: Keep somewhat more evenly moist than thick-leaved Hoyas, allowing the mix to begin drying between waterings without leaving it dry for extended periods.

  • Soil: Use a fine but airy, fast-draining Hoya or epiphytic mix.

  • Humidity: Appreciates moderate to high humidity with good airflow.

  • Growth: Small-leaved, trailing and branching, with a naturally cascading habit.

  • Size: A true miniature Hoya and an excellent choice where growing space is limited.

  • Blooming: Established plants can produce clusters of tiny flowers under favorable conditions.

  • Peduncles: Leave old peduncles intact, as they may flower repeatedly.

  • Pet safety: Hoyas are generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs.
