Hawaiian Spider Plant – Air-Purifying Trailing Hanging Basket

The Hawaiian Spider Plant (Chlorophytum comosum) is a lush, easygoing houseplant with arching green-and-cream foliage and a beautifully cascading habit. As it matures, long stems spill over the edges of the pot carrying clusters of baby spider plants, creating a full, layered look that makes it especially well suited to hanging baskets.

Fast-growing, forgiving and adaptable to a wide range of indoor conditions, spider plants are excellent for beginners and experienced plant people alike. They’re also known for their ability to remove certain airborne compounds under controlled laboratory conditions, although like most houseplants, their real-world effect on indoor air quality is modest.

Light: Bright, indirect light is ideal, but it adapts well to medium light. Avoid intense afternoon sun.

Water: Water when the upper inch or two of potting mix begins to dry. Spider plants are fairly forgiving if you occasionally forget.

Humidity: Average household humidity is perfectly suitable, although it appreciates a little extra humidity in very dry conditions.

Soil: Use a loose, well-draining houseplant mix. Avoid allowing the roots to remain waterlogged.

Temperature: Prefers comfortable indoor temperatures and protection from cold drafts.

Growth: Fast-growing, arching and trailing. Mature plants readily produce hanging plantlets that can be propagated.

Pet Friendly: Spider plants are considered non-toxic to cats and dogs, but your cat might intentionally eat them and trip balls.

Difficulty: Easy.

A classic for good reason: lush, fast-growing, wonderfully forgiving and particularly impressive tumbling from a hanging basket.
