Red Venus Flytrap ‘Akai Ryu’ (Red Dragon)

One of the most sought-after Venus Flytrap cultivars, ‘Akai Ryu’ (Japanese for Red Dragon) is celebrated for its stunning deep burgundy-red foliage and traps. When grown in full sun, the entire plant develops rich crimson coloration, creating a dramatic display unlike the typical green Venus Flytrap. This registered cultivar is prized by collectors for its bold color, vigorous growth, and impressive insect-catching traps. 

Despite its exotic appearance, ‘Akai Ryu’ is easy to grow with the right conditions. Provide plenty of direct sunlight, keep the soil consistently moist using only rainwater, distilled water, or reverse osmosis water, and never fertilize. Like all Venus Flytraps, it requires a cool winter dormancy each year to remain healthy and thrive for many seasons.
