The Money Tree is a classic “good vibes” houseplant, loved for its braided trunk and bright, palmate leaves that instantly make a space feel fresher and more intentional. It’s an easygoing indoor tree that does best in bright, indirect light and rewards you with lush new growth when it’s happy. With the right care, it can stay compact for desks and shelves or slowly size up into a statement floor plant.
Despite the name, it doesn’t actually grow cash—but it is traditionally associated with luck, prosperity, and abundance, which makes it a great gift plant for new homes, new jobs, and new businesses. Money Trees are more forgiving than many “fussy” tropicals, as long as you let the top of the soil dry slightly between waterings and avoid soggy roots.
At The Accidental Plant Shop, we love Money Trees as beginner‑friendly “first trees” for indoor jungles. They play well with other plants, add height and structure to groupings, and look especially good in simple ceramics or woven baskets that show off the braided trunk.
Light: Bright, indirect light; tolerates medium light but avoid harsh, direct afternoon sun.
Water: Let the top 1–2" of soil dry before watering; water thoroughly, then drain excess.
Soil: Well‑draining indoor potting mix; avoid heavy, dense soils that stay wet.
Humidity: Prefers moderate humidity; appreciates occasional misting or a nearby humidifier.
Temperature: Typical indoor temps are fine; protect from cold drafts and sudden temperature drops.
Growth habit: Upright small tree; can be kept compact with pruning or allowed to slowly grow taller over time.
