Hoya decipulae – With Peduncles

Hoya decipulae is an unusual collector species with a wonderfully different look from many of the more familiar Hoyas. Its elongated, textured green foliage grows along vigorous vines, but the flowers are where this species really earns its place in a collection.

The blooms are distinctive and almost otherworldly, with narrow, reflexed petals that give each flower a delicate, sculptural appearance. Rather than the dense, perfectly rounded umbels associated with many Hoyas, H. decipulae has a looser and more architectural flowering habit.

These plants are already producing peduncles, giving them a head start toward flowering under the right growing conditions. Peduncles should never be removed after blooming, as Hoyas can flower repeatedly from the same structures.

Care Highlights

  • Light: Bright, indirect light is ideal, especially if you’re hoping to encourage flowering.
  • Water: Allow the potting mix to partially dry between waterings, then water thoroughly.
  • Soil: Use a chunky, airy and fast-draining Hoya or epiphytic mix.
  • Humidity: Appreciates moderate to high humidity with good air circulation.
  • Growth: Vining and best allowed to climb or trail.
  • Blooming: Plants with established peduncles may bloom more readily, but flowering is never guaranteed and depends on growing conditions.
  • Peduncles: Do not remove old peduncles; they may produce flowers again in future bloom cycles.
  • Pet safety: Hoyas are generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs.
