Hoya AH ‘Black Spinel’ is a moody, jewel‑toned wax plant for people who like their hoyas a little dramatic. Its leaves tend to darken and deepen in color under brighter light, giving it that “black gem” vibe that looks incredible against lighter walls or pale pots. The foliage is thick and slightly textured, so it still delivers that satisfying wax‑plant feel.
This is a classic Hoya in terms of care: bright, indirect light, a very well‑draining mix, and a watering schedule that leans more toward “forgetful” than “over‑enthusiastic.” Let the soil dry almost completely, then water thoroughly and let all the extra drain away. With patience and good light, it can eventually bloom with the clustered, starry flowers hoyas are known for.
At The Accidental Plant Shop, we like ‘Black Spinel’ as the moody counterpart to your lighter, variegated hoyas. It brings depth and contrast to a Hoya shelf and looks especially good paired with plants that have silver or cream variegation.
