Begonia Rex Merengue 4"

Begonia Rex ‘Merengue’ 4″

Begonia rex ‘Merengue’ is a seriously showy Rex Begonia with large, ruffled leaves washed in frosted silver-green, raspberry pink, and deep burgundy. Dark branching veins spread across each leaf while irregular pink splashes and mottling give every new leaf a slightly different appearance.

The puckered, heavily textured foliage makes the colors even more dramatic, particularly as the plant fills out. New growth may emerge with stronger pink and burgundy tones before developing more of the characteristic silvery finish.

Compact and wonderfully weird, ‘Merengue’ makes an excellent tabletop plant and absolutely shines in a collection of foliage begonias.

Care

Light: Bright, indirect light encourages strong coloration and compact growth. Avoid intense direct afternoon sun.

Water: Allow the upper layer of the growing mix to begin drying before watering thoroughly. Keep moderately moist but never soggy.

Humidity: Appreciates moderate to high humidity with good airflow.

Temperature: Prefers warm, stable indoor temperatures around 65–80°F. Protect from cold drafts.

Growing medium: Use a light, airy, well-draining mix that retains some moisture without staying saturated.

Pot size: 4″ nursery pot.

Color and pattern naturally vary from leaf to leaf — which is half the fun with Rex Begonias.
