Begonia ‘Chayo’

Begonia ‘Chayo’ is a striking foliage begonia with broad, heavily textured leaves covered in a frosted silver-to-pewter finish. Deep green markings trace the veins and break through the silver surface in irregular patches, while soft blush-pink and lavender tones develop around the margins and across older leaves.

The combination gives ‘Chayo’ an almost metallic appearance, with the color shifting depending on the light and age of each leaf. Its puckered texture and dark veining become increasingly pronounced as the foliage matures.

Care

Light: Bright, indirect light encourages compact growth and brings out the silver, pink, and contrasting dark markings. Avoid harsh afternoon sun.

Water: Allow the upper layer of the growing mix to begin drying before watering again. Keep moderately moist but never saturated.

Humidity: Appreciates moderate to high humidity with good air circulation.

Temperature: Prefers warm, stable indoor conditions around 65–80°F. Protect from cold drafts.

Growing medium: A light, airy, well-draining mix that holds some moisture without remaining soggy.

Like many foliage begonias, coloration can change considerably with light, temperature, maturity, and growing conditions, so expect each new leaf to bring its own variation.

A beautifully strange begonia — silvery, slightly pink, deeply textured, and almost metallic in the right light.
