Begonia brevirimosa ‘Exotica’ – Rare Metallic Pink Cane Begonia

Begonia brevirimosa ‘Exotica’ is one of the most striking tropical begonias available, prized by collectors for its naturally occurring metallic pink bands across deep olive-green leaves. The elongated, cane-style foliage makes this a true focal plant for bright indoor spaces, plant shelves, and display cases.

This subspecies originates from the rainforests of New Guinea, where it grows in warm, humid understory conditions with filtered light. In cultivation, its glossy leaves show wide, iridescent pink streaks that intensify under consistent humidity and stable temperatures. As it matures, ‘Exotica’ develops upright, branching canes and may produce soft pink blooms on terminal inflorescences.

At The Accidental Plant Shop, each plant is grown in a well‑draining, organic mix suitable for tropical begonias and acclimated to indoor conditions before sale. Expect some variation in patterning from leaf to leaf; this is a naturally variegated species, not a chemically treated plant. Minor cosmetic imperfections or older leaf blemishes are normal and do not affect new growth.

Care instructions
• Light: Bright, indirect light; avoid harsh direct sun.
• Water: Keep the soil lightly moist; water again just before it fully dries and avoid letting it stay soggy.
• Humidity: Prefers high humidity; ideal for cabinets, sunrooms, or near a humidifier.
• Temperature: Keep warm and protected from drafts or cold; not frost‑tolerant.
• Soil: Use an organic, well‑draining mix with components like fine bark, perlite, and peat/coco.
• Growth habit: Upright cane/angel‑wing type that may benefit from staking as the stems elongate.
